Description
For the reasons presented in the introduction to this volume, it appeared important that a study of the archaeology of Tennessee river between Nashville it and Chattanooga should be made; and through the suggestion and aid of Mr Clarence B. Moore, a Trustee of this Museum, the expedition the results of which are embodied in the present volume-was made possible. Although Tennessee river between the cities mentioned was reconnoitered for archaeological sites, the actual work was confined to that part lying between its tributaries, the Little Tennessee and Hiwassee rivers, a distance of one hundred and two miles. The research along this particular part of the river was conducted by Mr Harrington, assisted by Mr Charles O. Turbyfill, between August and December, 1919.
