From a very young age, most people in so-called civilized countries are taught that all men, women, and children are part of the human race. In times of incivility, however, the human race is often subdivided into four races: black, white, red, and yellow. In 2013, the Idle No More movement took hold in North America. Its goal was to draw attention to the concerns of Indigenous people, particularly in Canada. In the midst of this lobby, in which the “white” and “red” “races” became virtually polarized, Thomas D. Taylor, a white man, wrote nine essays which gave his opinions about events as they unfolded. These essays have been collected and republished here with additional commentary from Taylor.
