Ojibway Music from Minnesota: A Century of Song of Voice and Drum

Music and song have always been a vital part of Ojibway life. Songs have accompanied activities sacred and secular, serious and lighthearted — for love and for war, in dreams and in stories, to honor others or to tease opponents. Ojibway music today includes a rich diversity of song types and styles, some centuries old and others the product of late-20th-century popular culture. This recording was designed to give a representative picture of Ojibway music spanning nearly a century, collected in Minnesota or performed by Minnesota Ojibway singers and recorded elsewhere.
