Description
The story of Molly Brant, also known as Degonwadonti, is of special interest because it evolves around the British side of the American Revolution. The main character is a Native American woman who was very involved in important phases of the history of our country. She was born in 1736 and died in 1796.
Although Degonwadonti had great influence on the lives of her brother, Joseph Brant, and her partner, Sir William Johnson, and on events in their times, very little attention has been given to her in histories and other literature. Although there exist statues and portraits of both men, there are none of her.
You will find among the pages of this book much about the traditions, culture and history of the Six Nations, the Iroquois League, intertwined with dramatic incidents in Eighteenth Century America. Degonwadonti played a large role in those circumstances, and it is time she receives recognition for the significant part she played.
